7 Careers with Good Pay, Low Investment

If you are starting fresh or thinking about changing careers here is a list of 7 careers worth considering.  They are not ranked in any particular order.  I chose careers that I felt would give the most job security while also paying well in the least amount of time.

1. Engineer. Generally speaking engineers get jobs but if you want to ensure employment consider Computer Science or Petroleum engineering specialties where median pay is $85K and $122K, respectively. Requires Bachelor Degree.

2. Network Administrator.  These people implement technology so businesses can access the internet and local area networks.  Median pay $71K. Requires Bachelors Degree.

3. Court Reporter.  Traditionally they transcribe court proceedings but increasingly they also provide captions for TV programming.  Median pay $50K.  Requires Associate Degree.

4. Physical Therapist Assistant.  The name says it all.  Median pay $46K.  Requires Associate Degree.

5. Registered Nurse.  They treat patients and provide advice and emotional support.  Median pay $62K. Requires Associate Degree.

6. Accountant.  Every business needs them.  Median pay $59K. Requires Bachelor Degree.

7. Dental Hygienist.  They assist dentists in providing oral care to patients.  Median pay $67K. Requires Associate Degree.

As you can see three positions are in Healthcare and two are in high-tech - those two areas are worth exploring generally.  With that said, the best bang for your buck is in health care especially Dental Hygienist or Registered Nurse; two years to make over $60K is a great return on investment!  One quick note, the data used for the article is for the US market and can be found by searching the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook database – just type in the name of the occupation and salary and other relevant information will show up.
