Managing Your Personal Brand to Get a Job

Many professionals search for opportunities and then interview but do not close the deal.  They often wonder what they could have done to improve their chance of getting an offer.  As I stated in “3 Tips for Interview Success Article” if you are positive/happy, mention relevant experiences and seem to be a cultural fit for the company then you have an excellent chance of landing the job.  Although those points are still valid I want to dig deeper on the second point – mention relevant experiences – as this is an area I find people have a hard time addressing.

Muchos profesionales buscan oportunidades de empleo y una entrevista pero no terminan cerrando un contrato u oferta de empleo final. Ellos con frecuencia se preguntan que pudo haber ocurrido y así poder mejorar esa oportunidad para obtener el empleo. Job Search Tips for 40 & 50 Year Old Workers

Finding a job is tough and it can be especially difficult when you are an older worker.  According to a Pew analysis workers over forty and particularly ages 45+ have the hardest time finding a job.  Although many countries have specific laws prohibiting age discrimination like the Age Discrimination Act in the United States or general prohibitions against discrimination like those found in some Latin American constitutions they are either hard to prove or not enforced.

Buscar empleo no es fácil y podría tornarse  una tarea difícil cuando pasas los 40 años de edad. De acuerdo a un estudio hecho por Pew cada empleado mayor de 40 años específicamente 45 y más les es más difícil para hallar trabajo.  Aunque en muchos países hay leyes específicas donde prohíben el Acto de Discriminación por edad, en Estados Unidos la ley en general también lo prohíbe, pero estas son difíciles probar que no hay discriminación o ponerla en práctica.

Top Global Cities for Finding a Job

The Brookings Institution recently released the 2011 “Global MetroMonitor” where it ranked the top 200 metro areas for employment.  I picked the top 7 from Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America.

Before I jump into the Top 7 Global Places to Find a Job I wanted to give a brief summary of the Brookings Institution findings.  First, 90 percent of the fastest growing metropolitan economies were located outside North America and Western Europe.  Second, metropolitan areas specializing in commodities and business and financial services were the strongest performers.  Without further ado here are the top 7:

La Institución de Brookings recientemente publico la lista “Global Metro Monitor” del 2011 donde clasifica a las 200 mejores empresas de empleo en diferentes áreas metropolitanas en varias partes del mundo. Escogí  7 empresas de Asia, Europa, Latinoamérica y Norteamérica para darte a conocerlas.

Pero antes de comenzar a hablar sobre estos sitios Globales para encontrar un trabajo quiero hacer un breve recuento del análisis hecho por la Institución Brookings. Primero, el 90 por ciento del crecimiento económico más rápido se encuentra en las áreas metropolitanas fuera de Norteamérica y Europa. Job Search Formula for Success

Applying for jobs is hard but with the right mental framework and a plan it can be much easier.  Below are 3 tips.

Be Positive.  The most successful job seekers actually believe that their job search will be a success and network/associate with people who can have a positive impact on that goal.  As one of my favorite motivational speakers, Zig Ziglar, once said “You are what you are and where you are because of what has gone into your mind; you can change what you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind.”  I believe this 100 percent and if you want to have a successful job search you need to first regularly think positive thoughts that are related to getting the job you want and be around people who will help you reach that goal. 

Formula Para una Búsqueda en Empleo Exitosa.

Solicitar empleo es una tarea ardua pero cuando tú estas mentalmente positivo y un plan preparado puede ser mucho más fácil.  Aquí tengo tres sugerencias para ti.

Se positivo. Los buscadores de empleos más  exitosos creen que su búsqueda será exitosa y se relaciona con personas quienes tienen una meta y un impacto positivo.  Uno de mis presentadores motivacional favorito, Zig Ziglar ha dice “Tu estas donde estas por lo que ha llegado tu mente, tu puedes cambiar lo que eres y donde estas cambiando lo que recibes en tu mente”. Yo creo esto 100 por ciento, si tu quieres tener éxito en tu búsqueda de trabajo necesitas pensar de manera positiva creyendo que si vas a obtener el empleo que tu quieres y necesitas estar alrededor de personas positivas que te ayuden a alcanzar esa meta.
